Softball Recap: Hinsdale Central Red Devils vs. York Dukes

Hinsdale Central had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-6 to make it six. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the York Dukes. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dukes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for York, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

For York's part, Sophia Lanciloti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. Lanciloti has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lillianah (Lilly) Burda was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Kanouse, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Hinsdale Central will take on Proviso West at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for York, they will challenge Barrington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Fillies/Broncos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Dukes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
