Softball Game Preview: Alton Comets vs. Doniphan Dons

The Alton Comets are taking a road trip to square off against the Doniphan Dons at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Alton has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Alton came up short against Van Buren on Thursday, falling 16-1. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Doniphan faced Kennett in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Dons lost 14-2 to the Indians. The contest marked the Dons' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Dalila Watson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

Alton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Doniphan, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2.

Alton might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Doniphan in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
