Basketball Preview: Ash Grove Pirates vs. Marionville Comets
The Ash Grove Pirates have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Marionville Comets at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. Ash Grove will be strutting in after a victory while the Comets will be coming in after a loss.
In what's become a running theme this season, Ash Grove gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They blew past Greenwood 53-32. The victory was just what Ash Grove needed coming off of a 61-37 loss in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Marionville unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 48-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Diamond. Marionville has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Marionville had strong showings from Dally Pomeroy, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Lucy Newberry, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Newberry hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games.
The victory got Ash Grove back to even at 8-8. As for Marionville, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-5.
