Game recap: South Pointe High School Football Team wins against Clover

ROCK HILL, S.C. - South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.) received a huge boost from its defense against Clover (S.C.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Clover (S.C.), 42-0.

The lead that the Stallions took on a touchdown pass by Zaylin Burris to Anthony Johnson with 11:00 to go in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.

South Pointe scored 28 points in the second quarter on the way to a win. SP scored on a Bree Minor touchdown run, a Burris touchdown pass to Montez McCullough, a defensive touchdown and a defensive touchdown in the quarter.

South Pointe's most effective player was Burris. The sophomore quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.

The Stallions went into the matchup giving up only 17.3 points per game. The zero points that the Blue Eagles ended with were right around their average of 1.5 coming into the game.



The loss comes after Clover defeated Lancaster 42-21 last week. The win brought South Pointe's winning streak to three games.

South Pointe (7-2) will play a AAAA Region III game against York next week, while Clover (1-8) will take on Fort Mill also in a AAAA Region III game.
