Basketball Game Preview: Staunton River Golden Eagles vs. Lord Botetourt Cavaliers

Staunton River is 0-10 against Lord Botetourt since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Staunton River Golden Eagles will look to defend their home court against the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, Staunton River came up short against William Byrd and fell 59-48.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lord Botetourt). They snuck past Wilson Memorial with an 81-75 victory on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cavaliers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Green Hornets are ranked 43rd).

Lord Botetourt's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Staunton River, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Staunton River was taken down by Lord Botetourt 65-34 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Staunton River avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
