Basketball Game Preview: Briarcrest Christian Saints vs. Hutchison Sting

Briarcrest Christian and Hutchison are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2020, but not for long. The Briarcrest Christian Saints will venture away from home to take on the Hutchison Sting at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Briarcrest Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Agnes Academy, taking the game 58-48. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Saints.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Briarcrest Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kendall Jones, who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. Jones has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Reagan Newby was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Briarcrest Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Hutchison waltzed into their contest last Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They beat the Stars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 68-36. The Sting have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 25 points or more this season.

Hutchison pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points over those games. As for Briarcrest Christian, their record is now 13-8.

Briarcrest Christian was taken down by Hutchison 59-30 when the teams last played back in January. Can Briarcrest Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
