Soccer Game Preview: Cypress Creek vs. Lake Nona

The Cypress Creek Bears will take on the Lake Nona Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cypress Creek is coming into the matchup on the come-up as their season has now been buoyed by two straight victories. They walked away with a 4-2 win over Lake Buena Vista on Wednesday. Emanuel Alzate was a massive factor in the win as he booted in three goals all by himself.

Cypress Creek was without their leading scorer, Marlon Pertuz, in Wednesday's contest. With Pertuz sidelined, Cypress Creek had to make some changes to the lineup. And. Alzate made the most of the opportunity, scoring three goals A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, Lake Nona put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. Their defense stepped up to hand Windermere a 1-0 shutout. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Wolverines are ranked 49th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lake Nona has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-0-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those eight matchups. As for Cypress Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11-1.

Cypress Creek might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Lake Nona when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Cypress Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
