Baseball Recap: St. Xavier Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

St. Xavier barely beat McCracken County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 6-0 shutout on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won six in a row.

St. Xavier got a great performance from Jakob Reed as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Coomer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Benefield, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

St. Xavier's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for McCracken County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-7.

St. Xavier and McCracken County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Tigers (ranked third) will meet Warren East (ranked 82nd) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, McCracken County will face off against Calloway County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (4 vs. 109).
