Soccer Game Preview: Citrus vs. Leesburg

The Citrus Hurricanes will take on the Leesburg Yellow Jackets in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Citrus is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.5 goals per game this season.

On Thursday, Citrus narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Belleview 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hurricanes.

Brock Doolittle and Henry Trochez scored all three of Citrus' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 19 goals.

Meanwhile, Leesburg entered their tilt with Belleview on Monday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against the Rattlers by a score of 3-1. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Rattlers are ranked 428th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Citrus pushed their record up to 8-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 17 goals over those four matchups. As for Leesburg, their win bumped their record up to 8-1-1.

Citrus suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Leesburg in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Can Citrus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
