Basketball Recap: Damonte Ranch Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Hailey Fisher and Maya Hartley

After flying high against Galena last Monday, Damonte Ranch came back down to earth. The Damonte Ranch Mustangs came up short against the Spanish Springs Cougars on Wednesday, falling 54-29. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-38 back in December of 2024.

Damonte Ranch's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Maya Hartley, who posted nine points, and Hailey Fisher, who earned two points. The dominant performance also gave Fisher a new career-high in assists (two).

Among those leading the charge was Reese Wakefield, who scored 12 points and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Mackenzie Chase was another key player, going 5 for 7 on her way to 12 points.

Damonte Ranch dropped their record down to 3-14 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Spanish Springs, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

Damonte Ranch didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-44 defeat against Bishop Manogue on the 20th. As for Spanish Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 59-41 loss against Reno on the 17th.
