Softball Recap: Holy Name Gets the Win

The Holy Name Green Wave narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Green Wave.

Reagan Vavro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Holy Name let Alli Orzech and Bailey Garlow run wild. Orzech went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs, while Garlow went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Garlow a new career-high. Maria Masetta also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Holy Name's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Holy Name didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-0 win against Lake Catholic on the 24th. As for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 10-1 loss against Elyria Catholic on the 23rd.
