Basketball Recap: Lake Mead Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Lake Mead Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 92-37 loss at the hands of the Needles Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 101st in Nevada, while the Mustangs are ranked 16th in California).

Despite the loss, Lake Mead Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caynen Abittan went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 25 points. What's more, Abittan also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2023.

Needles was led to victory by Darrell Russell and Luke Mills. Russell went 12 for 17 to rack up 28 points along with seven assists and four steals, while Mills dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 assists. The game was Russell's third in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Connor Goulet, who went 5 of 6 en route to 14 points.

Lake Mead Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Needles, the win keeps them at an undefeated 27-0.

Lake Mead Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-48 victory against Laughlin on the 8th. As for Needles, they have also already played their next matchup, an 83-38 win against GV Christian on the 8th.
