Baseball Game Preview: General McLane Lancers vs. Grove City Eagles

The General McLane Lancers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Grove City Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Grove City took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on General McLane, who comes in off a win.

General McLane will bounce into Friday's match after beating Cathedral Prep, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lancers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ramblers on Wednesday, sneaking past 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lancers.

Jackson Kiser made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kiser was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kellen Chelton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Grove City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Titusville. On the bright side, the 11- run effort marked the Eagles' highest-scoring contest to date.

Nolan Renick was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Max Knouse was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

General McLane's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Grove City, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

General McLane beat Grove City 7-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
