Baseball Recap: Gaffney Has No Trouble Against James F. Byrnes

Gaffney made up a huge gap compared to their last game against James F. Byrnes, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Gaffney Indians' way against the James F. Byrnes Rebels on Wednesday as the Gaffney Indians made off with a 12-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Scout Gilfillan spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brady Smith and Braden Beattie did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Beattie scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in RBI (two). Gage McDaniel was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Gaffney now has a winning record of 5-4. As for James F. Byrnes, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-4.

Gaffney will have a chance to go back-to-back against James F. Byrnes: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
