Softball Game Preview: Clinton Prairie Gophers vs. Fountain Central Mustangs

The Clinton Prairie Gophers will face off against the Fountain Central Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Clinton Prairie is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

On Friday, Clinton Prairie made easy work of North Montgomery and carried off a 13-3 victory. Considering the Gophers have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Wessell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brenna Riley, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 games. Another player making a difference was Keera Grizzle, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four runs.

Clinton Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Fountain Central came up short against Attica on Thursday and fell 10-7. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fountain Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oliviah Jones, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Aubrey Meihls also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Clinton Prairie's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Fountain Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.

Clinton Prairie came out on top in a nail-biter against Fountain Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Gophers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
