Basketball Recap: York Victorious

York won the last time they faced Malcolm and things went their way on Friday too. The York Dukes managed a 55-49 victory over the Malcolm Clippers.

York had a senior duo take command as Lainey Portwine dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 boards and Chloe Koch went 6 for 11 en route to 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Portwine has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Kinslee Kern was another key player, putting up ten points.

York was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Malcolm only racked up seven assists.

Despite the loss, Malcolm saw an underclassman step up: freshman Payton Dolliver almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 38.8% of Malcolm's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Merryl Paul, who put up seven points and six boards.

York's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Malcolm, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6.

York wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-30 victory against North Platte on the 25th. Malcolm has also already played their next game, a 51-35 loss against Kearney on the 25th.
