Baseball Game Preview: Scottsburg Warriors vs. Southwestern Rebels

The Scottsburg Warriors will square off against the Southwestern Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Scottsburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Monday just wasn't the day for Scottsburg's offense. They came up short against Corydon Central on Monday, falling 7-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Southwestern entered their tilt with Milan on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Indians by a score of 9-4.

Braxton Lewis and Jeter Chatham did most of the damage at the plate: Lewis went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base, while Chatham went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits Chatham has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Andrew Varble, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Southwestern pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Scottsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Scottsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southwestern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Scottsburg's way against Southwestern when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Scottsburg made off with a 20-11 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
