Baseball Recap: Mater Academy Charter Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mater Academy Charter had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars as they made off with an 8-1 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Jeuri La Rosa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mater Academy Charter let Dylan Fernandez and Brandon Lorenzo run wild. Fernandez went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Lorenzo went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Fernandez a new career-high. Yodelkis Quevedo was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

The win (which was Mater Academy Charter's seventh in a row) raised their record to 21-9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they dropped their record down to 14-14-1 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

As of now, neither Mater Academy Charter nor the Jaguars have any future games scheduled.
