Softball Preview: Marshall Lions vs. West Vigo Vikings

The Marshall Lions will head out to take on the West Vigo Vikings at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Marshall's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Lawrenceville. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Kyla Gustafson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Marshall got a massive performance out of Lynn Welborn, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Welborn has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Davis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, West Vigo put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Shakamak 12-1.

Janelle Sullivan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
