Softball Recap: El Cerrito Finds Home Field Redemption Against Bethel

There's no place like home for El Cerrito, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Bethel Jaguars on Wednesday. The Gauchos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by ten runs or more this season.

Courtney Miles was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miles was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases.

In other pitching news, Leah Sundstrom looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Arlie Tatum, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Ruby Miller, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

El Cerrito kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethel only managed four hits.

El Cerrito's record now sits at 14-2. As for Bethel, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Cerrito will head out to challenge Vallejo at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bethel, they will venture away from home to square off against Justin-Siena at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
