Football Recap: Blue Springs Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Blue Springs South, Blue Springs was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Liberty North Eagles by a score of 27-14. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 31-21 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Corey Mayfield had a dynamite game, rushing for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Those 141 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Erickson, who threw for 126 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Blue Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zemar Cheatam, who rushed for 127 yards and one score. Cheatam's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 105 rushing yards. Liberty North also got help from Jaxen Proden, who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.

Blue Springs' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.8 points over those games. As for Liberty North, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4.

As of now, neither Blue Springs nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
