The Yazoo City Indians and the Holmes County Central Jaguars will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Holmes County Central took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Yazoo City, who comes in off a win.
Yazoo City posted their biggest win yet this season on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 52-13 win over Warren Central at home. Given Yazoo City's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Warren Central is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Holmes County Central's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Terry by a score of 37-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Holmes County Central has suffered yet this season.
Yazoo City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Holmes County Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.
Yazoo City couldn't quite finish off Holmes County Central in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 and fell 36-34. Can Yazoo City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
