Volleyball Recap: Gunnison's Run of 11 Straight Victories Now Over

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Gunnison couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They lost 3-0 to the Sterling Tigers on Thursday. The shutout was out of character for the Cowboys seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in October.

Their offense was headlined by Rose Kowal and Aubrey Welfelt, who picked up five kills apiece. They got some help from Natalia Sabino and her eight assists. Finally, Kowal was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

With the loss, Gunnison broke their 11-match winning streak and moved their record to 20-6. As for Sterling, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Gunnison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Resurrection Christian on the 14th. As for Sterling, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Alamosa on the 13th.
