Baseball Recap: Crosbyton Triumphs

Crosbyton posted their closest win since March 29, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past the Springlake-Earth Wolverines 11-10. This was a revenge game for the Chiefs: when they faced off against the Wolverines two weeks ago, they had to take a 9-8 loss.

Miah Marquez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Marquez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nolan Salazar, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Crosbyton is 2-1 when Salazar posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Josiah Vega, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Crosbyton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Crosbyton and bumps their season record up to 3-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Springlake-Earth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9-1.

Coming up, Crosbyton will square off against Nazareth at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chiefs will need to watch out since the Swifts have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games. As for Springlake-Earth, they will take on Lamesa at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
