Baseball Recap: South Sumter Wins Going Away Against Freeport

South Sumter never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on the Freeport Bulldogs with a sharp 14-0 victory. Considering the Raiders have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyson Lake was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, Ismael Rodriguez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Gabe Sabilona was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

South Sumter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

South Sumter's record is now 10-2. As for Freeport, they moved to 11-5 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

South Sumter and Freeport should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. South Sumter (ranked 88th) will meet Leesburg (ranked 536th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Sumter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Freeport's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Freeport will challenge Wildwood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 457 places (136 vs. 593). South Sumter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
