Given the Dons' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Mavericks are ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Palo Duro has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow still isn't as good as their 28-5 record this season. As for Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 14-20.
