Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Carondelet

Carondelet took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against College Park, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars skirted past the Falcons 9-8. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Mylei Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Lopez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Carondelet let Angela Gates and Norie Umene run wild. Gates went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Umene went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Gates has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Grace McKinley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Carondelet hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Carondelet's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for College Park, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Carondelet will welcome California at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for College Park, they will take on Acalanes at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dons have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
