Volleyball Recap: Westmoreland Falls Despite Big Games from Laney Worzalla and Morgan Gooch

Westmoreland lost against Lancaster back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eagles fell 3-1 to the Red Devils. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Red Devils 25-19 in the first set.

Westmoreland started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-18, 25-7, 25-20.

Westmoreland's loss came despite strong showings from Morgan Gooch and Laney Worzalla. Gooch had seven digs and two aces, while Worzalla had 12 digs and four aces. Gooch has been hot, having also posted 17 or more assists the last five times she's played.

Lancaster found their leader in sophomore Addison George, who had 30 digs and three assists.

Westmoreland moved to 12-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-match winning streak. As for Lancaster, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Westmoreland will square off against Northumberland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lancaster, they will challenge King & Queen Central at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
