Baseball Recap: Coxsackie-Athens Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

While Coxsackie-Athens put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Watervliet. The Riverhawks were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Cannoneers. Considering the Riverhawks have won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brendan Woytowich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Coxsackie-Athens got a massive performance out of Alex Slater, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Slater a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Sager, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coxsackie-Athens is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Watervliet, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coxsackie-Athens will head out to face off against Albany Academy for Boys at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watervliet, they will venture away from home to square off against Maple Hill at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
