Softball Recap: Lafayette Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Marshall County

Lafayette faced Marshall County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Generals fell just short of the Marshals by a score of 9-8. The loss was the Generals' first of the season.

Rylan Music was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Combs made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Anna Clay Denton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Having lost for the first time this season, Lafayette fell to 13-1. As for Marshall County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season.

Lafayette is taking a road trip to challenge Fort Walton Beach at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Generals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Marshall County, they will head out to take on Henry County at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
