Softball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic Comes Up Short

After soaring to 12 runs the game before, Clearwater Central Catholic was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They fell just short of the Cardinal Mooney Cougars by a score of 3-2. The Marauders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Bethanny Ortiz was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Isabella Mendizabal also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Clearwater Central Catholic has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Cardinal Mooney and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Clearwater Central Catholic will square off against Indian Rocks Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cardinal Mooney, they will challenge St. Petersburg Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
