Basketball Recap: Fuddy Kile's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maconaquah over Southwood

Maconaquah fought the good fight in their overtime match against Southwood on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Southwood Knights by a score of 78-75. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Braves came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Knights are ranked 278th).

Several Braves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fuddy Kile, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Kile is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. AJ Kelly was another key player, going 6-for-11 to rack up 16 points and six rebounds.

It was another big night for Bryce Wilcox, who went 12-for-22 on his way to 29 points along with eight boards and three blocks for Southwood. That makes it four consecutive games in which Wilcox has scored at least a third of Southwood's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Barney, who posted five points in addition to 17 assists and seven rebounds.

Maconaquah's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-5. As for Southwood, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Coming up, Maconaquah will face off against Northfield at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Maconaquah's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for Southwood, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 63-52 loss against Madison-Grant on the 15th.
