Baseball Game Preview: Hopewell Blue Devils vs. Surry County Cougars

The Hopewell Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Surry County Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hopewell 4.1, Surry County 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Hopewell took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Dinwiddie, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils beat the Generals on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Surry County had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 20th.

Surry County secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Bradley Boller, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Hopewell pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Surry County, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
