Baseball Recap: Excel Christian Beats Carlin for Their Sixth Straight Win

Excel Christian entered their tilt with Carlin on Saturday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Railroaders get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-4 on Saturday.

Tommy Schoech was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Grayson King was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Mori, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Excel Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlin only posted a batting average of .000.

Excel Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for Carlin, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Excel Christian will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Coleville at 3:00 p.m. on April 8. Coleville has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.17 runs per game on average), something Excel Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Carlin, they will face off against Pyramid Lake at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Pyramid Lake has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.75 runs per game on average), something Carlin will no doubt try to take advantage of.
