Thoreau proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 21) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They escaped with a win against the Crownpoint Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Thoreau's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayliegh Dodge, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Madison Woodie, who earned ten points.

Despite the loss, Crownpoint still got an impressive performance from Courtney Craig, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Craig has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. Miley McMillan was another key player, putting up seven points.

Thoreau's victory bumped their record up to 14-12. As for Crownpoint, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-14.

Thoreau didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-42 win against Newcomb on the 25th. As for Crownpoint, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-40 victory against Wingate on the 24th.
