Basketball Game Preview: Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings vs. Alburnett Pirates

The Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Alburnett Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 82-47, which was the final score in Edgewood-Colesburg's tilt against Springville on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Orioles: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Alburnett humbled East Buchanan with a 74-47 victory. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 328th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alburnett has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Edgewood-Colesburg, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Edgewood-Colesburg took a serious blow against Alburnett in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 80-30. Can Edgewood-Colesburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
