Softball Recap: Burlington Comes Up Short

Burlington extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 5-9. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mission Valley Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on Monday.

Bristol Brooks was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.

As for Mission Valley, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average this season.

On Mission Valley's side, Maddie Kraus made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave Kraus a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailynn Jacobson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Burlington didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 17-2 loss against Santa Fe Trail on the 21st. As for Mission Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against St. Marys on the 21st.
