Baseball Recap: Daviess County Takes a Loss

Daviess County was the 8-1 winner over South Warren when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Daviess County took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Warren on Saturday.

Daviess County got a good showing from Weston Lawrence, who struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Lawrence a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Daviess County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Rickard, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Logan Mewes also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Daviess County's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for South Warren, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Daviess County will square off against Hancock County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South Warren, they will face off against Franklin-Simpson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Franklin-Simpson will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something South Warren surely won't give up without a fight.
