Basketball Recap: Josey Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Za?Miyah Jenkins Z and Kerri Fluellen

If Josey was feeling good fresh off their 62-33 takedown of Washington County last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Josey Eagles took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Augusta Yellow Jackets on Friday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Yellow Jackets from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Josey's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kerri Fluellen, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals, and Za?Miyah Jenkins Z, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 boards. Fluellen has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 40 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaniya Sanders, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

North Augusta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Celena Grant (New), who posted 20 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kenedi Wright, who put up 11 points and five assists.

Josey's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for North Augusta, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Josey didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 50-23 win against South Aiken on the 28th. As for North Augusta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-30 victory against Washington County on the 28th.
