Basketball Game Preview: Falls City Tigers vs. Fairbury Jeffs

Falls City and Fairbury are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Falls City Tigers will challenge the Fairbury Jeffs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Falls City is looking for their season's first victory.

Last Thursday, Falls City came up short against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer and fell 58-45.

Falls City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Paxton Armbruster, who posted 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Jacoby Bangert, who put up 14 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Bangert a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (57%).

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Falls City was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.6.

Fairbury hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They took down Schuyler 51-32 on Friday.

Falls City better keep an eye on Brodie Prellwitz. He was instrumental in Fairbury's win, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jonah Parrack, who had five points.

Falls City's defeat dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Fairbury, their record now sits at 8-14.

Falls City and Fairbury were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Falls City came up empty-handed after a 37-36 loss. Can Falls City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
