Basketball Recap: Maddox Pallanez and Spencer Townsell Secure Win for Northland Christian

With a playoff win on the line, Northland Christian rose to the challenge on Saturday. They put the hurt on Veritas Academy with a sharp 76-52 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 354th in Texas, while Veritas Academy are ranked 1095th in Texas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Northland Christian to victory were Spencer Townsell and Maddox Pallanez. Townsell went 8-for-15 to rack up 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Pallanez dropped a double-double with 20 points and 16 boards. That's the most points Pallanez has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sion Cleveland, who put up eight points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Veritas Academy lost, don't look at Patrick Cannata. Despite the final result, he had 14 points and three steals. Cannata continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Isaac Karnes was another key player, putting up six points.

The win made it two in a row for Northland Christian and bumps their season record up to 24-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points over those games. As for Veritas Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-16.

Northland Christian has already played their next match, a 72-51 loss against Hill Country Christian School of Austin on the 18th. Veritas Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
