Baseball Recap: Estancia Finds Playoff Glory Versus Mary Star of the Sea

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Estancia had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Mary Star of the Sea Stars. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Nico Viramontes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Estancia is 10-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 11-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Athan Perez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Atkinson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Estancia pushed their record up to 21-13 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Mary Star of the Sea, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-14.

Estancia has already played their next match, a 7-5 loss against Ridgeview on the 6th. Mary Star of the Sea does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
