Volleyball Recap: Independence's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Independence lost against Briggs on April 1st, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The 76ers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bruins. While the 76ers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bruins 25-20 in the first set.

Independence started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-12.

Thomas Aubrey paced Independence's offense, picking up eight kills. Aubrey got some help from Algenis Castano and his nine assists. Castano was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.

Victor Som was the offensive standout of the contest as he had 15 digs. Those 15 digs gave him a new career-high. Vilikehon Saenghpet also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Independence's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6. As for Briggs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Independence has already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Worthington Christian on the 22nd. As for Briggs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against St. Francis DeSales on the 30th.
