Volleyball Game Preview: Buchtel Griffins vs. Firestone Falcons

Buchtel hasn't had much luck against Firestone recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Griffins will head out to square off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Buchtel got the win against East by a conclusive 3-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Griffins.

While Buchtel won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-23, 25-21.

Buchtel's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Anajha Spear, who had 20 assists and two aces, and Leaiyla Austin-Jones, who had 25 assists and three aces. Those 25 assists gave Austin-Jones a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Firestone earned a 3-1 win over Ellet on Tuesday.

Firestone was especially dominant in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 29-27, 17-25, 25-15.

Buchtel's record is now 4-7. As for Firestone, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Buchtel might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Firestone when the teams last played back in September. Can the Griffins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
