Basketball Recap: Telfair County Comes Up Short

Telfair County entered their game against Wilcox County on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Telfair County Trojans lost 66-40 to the Wilcox County Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Trojans have suffered since January 17th.

Despite the defeat, Telfair County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ty'Teionna Jones went 5 for 9 to rack up 10 points. Thanks to that strong game, Jones now owns an excellent 45.6% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Aamoni Posley, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, Telfair County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 24 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Wilcox County was led to victory by Tyliah Benjamin and Shamauri Martin. Benjamin dropped a double-double with 22 points and 25 boards, while Martin almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine steals. The contest was Benjamin's third in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Zariah Martin, who had eight points in addition to six assists and five steals.

Telfair County's loss dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Wilcox County, the victory was the 20th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-1.

As of now, neither Telfair County nor Wilcox County have any future games scheduled.
