Baseball Recap: Midd-West Comes Up Short

Midd-West fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lewisburg on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Green Dragons by a score of 8-7. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Green Dragons earlier this season, when they won 14-10.

Kyle Shupp and Braxton Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Shupp went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Smith went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Midd-West is 5-2 when Shupp posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Alex Trogan was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Midd-West has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Lewisburg, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Midd-West didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-8 win against Selinsgrove on the 11th. As for Lewisburg, they have also already played their next game, a 13-5 victory against Danville on the 11th.
