Basketball Recap: Monacan Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Monacan, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Powhatan Indians by a score of 73-63 on Thursday. Given the Chiefs' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Indians are ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Promyse Dent was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 11 on his way to 23 points along with five boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dekari Riley, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Monacan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Powhatan, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.

Monacan has already played their next matchup, a 61-59 win against Clover Hill on the 24th. As for Powhatan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-35 defeat against Cosby on the 24th.
