Basketball Game Preview: Cannon Cougars vs. Gaston Christian Eagles + How To Watch

Two dominant guards in DJ Rogers and Cameron Newman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cannon Cougars and the Gaston Christian Eagles will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Cannon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Cannon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Statesville 84-51. The Cougars not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since December 17, 2024 (when they won 114-70).

Cannon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tommy Underwood II, who went 5-for-8 en route to 10 points and four steals. That's the most steals Underwood II has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Weaks, who earned ten points.

Cannon was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Gaston Christian put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Fort Mill 74-60.

Gaston Christian's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Cannon, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.

Cannon came up short against Gaston Christian in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 69-62. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
