Baseball Game Preview: Kennedy Fighting Irish vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs

The Kennedy Fighting Irish will face off against the Costa Mesa Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Kennedy 3.7, Costa Mesa 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Kennedy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on University with a sharp 20-11 victory on Saturday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Fighting Irish, who until this contest were averaging 3.7 runs allowed.

Kennedy got a massive performance out of Adrian Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two hits gave Sanchez a new career-high. Axel Rojas was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Costa Mesa came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Knights.

Aiden Comte and Grady Jackson did most of the damage at the plate: Comte went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Jackson went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Costa Mesa's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.
