Basketball Recap: Gulf Breeze Comes Up Short

Gulf Breeze was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 58-19 loss at the hands of the Clarksville Academy Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Dolphins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 457th in Florida, while the Cougars are ranked 175th in Tennessee).

Clarksville Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sicily Robinson Ellington, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 19 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Hellums, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Gulf Breeze's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Clarksville Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6.

Gulf Breeze will look to defend their home court on January 7th against West Florida at 6:00 p.m. As for Clarksville Academy, they will head out to take on Friendship Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clarksville Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
